One of my favorite moments is dinner time with the family. Almost every night we come together to share our stories and enjoy each other's company around a table full of food!

I love remembering when my daughter Helena was a toddler; she had great taste buds, but she wasn’t always the most adventurous of eaters. What child is? We discovered that if we were consistent in telling her, "Sweetie, just take one small bite" when trying new foods... it worked like a charm.

This consistent but subtle change has made our dinners as a family less stressful because it is just one minor adjustment. Helena gets to try new foods and, over time, the exposure to a less stressful experience of eating reduces the likelihood that she creates strong feelings against food or avoids leading to false beliefs about eating in the future.

As it turns out, you can take the same approach to life. Allow curiosity to guide decisions, instill compassion, be committed to one change, and be consistent.

These four components form the core of One Small Bite, the book.

curiosity

compassion

commitment

consistency

In One Small Bite, my first book, I’ll inspire you to create new habits — small ones — that will help you build greater awareness of your own physiological and emotional signals.

You won’t get fad diet advice or “weird tricks.” And there are no bait-and-switch promises that if you just do “one little thing,” your blood sugar level will magically improve, or the pounds will melt off.

There’s no “quick” healthy meal plan, list of special fat-burning foods, or miracle juicing detox program here.

Instead, you’ll read stories of people just like you that made small, manageable changes—and you’ll learn how those changes transformed their lives.
